At their meeting Tuesday night, the Carbondale Board of Trustees discussed how the town is preparing for a changing climate.
The Western Water Assessment Institute at CU Boulder presented to the town in January about what it can expect to see in the coming years. At a bare minimum, for example, temperatures could be three to five degrees warmer in the Roaring Fork Valley by 2050.
This means less water, more fire, and stress on the ecosystem.
The town’s 2019 budget has a long list of projects meant to address these problems, from improving the storm water drainage system, to retrofitting facilities, to teaching residents about drought-resistant landscaping.
The town’s board wants to make the Western Water Assessment presentation public and hold a community presentation about its findings in the future.
