Pitkin County Looks For Internet Providers

Pitkin County and its broadband partner, Mammoth Networks, want to connect residents in the far-reaches of the Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valleys to to high-speed internet.

Legally, Pitkin County can’t get into the business of providing broadband. It does, however, own 13 mountain-top towers that provide radio and television to the valley.

Mammoth Networks has set up a broadband system that pings around these towers. By this spring or summer, many residents in the Crystal River Valley, mid-valley, and in Old Snowmass will have the opportunity to buy high-speed internet.

The question still remains, "From who?" The deadline is Friday for providers to toss their hat in the ring.
