Carbondale Talks About How To Weather Hotter, Drier Climate

Scientists from CU Boulder have studied what climate change will look like in Carbondale. They’re presenting the results on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Third Street Center.

A representative from the Western Water Assessment will speak about how the climate has already changed in town and how it’ll continue changing.

Since 2000, for example, the Roaring Fork River’s streamflows have been 13 percent lower than the previous century’s average.

The coming decades are likely to bring heat waves, wildfires and further diminished streamflows.

The purpose of the talk is to discuss drought planning and adaptation: How residents can use drought resistant plants in landscaping, for example.

The town will also discuss improvements its making to its water infrastructure.
