Festival Las Americas aims to raise money for CMC students

Festival Las Americas

An event aimed at showing the Carbondale community its diversity will come to Sopris Park this weekend. The 13th year of Festival Las Americas is what has been called a “cultural mixer” by some of its organizers.

Festival Las Americas is an event operated by the Rotary Club in Glenwood Springs. The event, which raises money Colorado Mountain College scholarships for first-generation students, is part of what organizer Michael Carter says is a greater mission.

“It’s an invite for everyone to come down and really celebrate the diversity of everyone that lives here in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The festival includes both bluegrass and Norteño music. In years past, the event has raised $18,000 in scholarships for prospective students.
