Jessica Cabe used to cover art for the Post Independent in Glenwood Springs. After seeing and working in the arts community, she wanted to be a part of it. So in the fall she decided to create her own traveling art gallery - “Nomad”.
The idea is that contemporary art will be put up in places that are currently vacant. Cabe’s goal is to revitalize both that particular spot, and the arts community as a whole. The only hard part is to get building owners and landlords on board.
Cabe is looking to open up Nomad’s first show in June. She has local artists Matthew Eames and Jay Phillips on board.
“(Glenwood Springs doesn’t) get the hype that Carbondale gets,” says Cabe. “You don’t get the recognition that Aspen gets for being a very high-end arts town.”
Cabe says she has reached out to other groups in Garfield County and has received letters of support and people offering to promote her.
