Aspen Figure Skating Club Presents “Beauty and the Beast on Ice”

Saturday, the Aspen Figure Skating Club will present two performances of “Beauty and the Beast on Ice.”

This year, club skaters from all levels will reenact the classic Disney story. The show will also feature special guest performances from U.S. Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist Gracie Gold and World Junior Champion Joshua Farris.

“My favorite part is the anticipation of right before the show begins. You get a chance to sort of transform your skating into something theatrical, so it goes from just being a routine to being something that is supposed to evoke emotion,” said Olympic Silver medalist Paul Wylie. He has been returning to Aspen to MC this event for several years now.

“There’s something about the lights and the music and the curtain and the group numbers, all of it transforms this sport into something that’s more about entertainment,” he said. “As skaters, we can take our sport and make it a bit more like a dance or entertainment style piece of art.”

The first show begins at 2:30p.m., with the second starting at 6 p.m. at the Aspen Recreation Center’s Lewis Arena. A portion of proceeds will go to the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Tickets can be purchased at the Wheeler box office.
