Carbondale is in the midst of a feasibility study for affordable housing with the national nonprofit Artspace.
About 40 people showed up to the Third Street Center gymnasium for a presentation and discussion with Artspace on Tuesday night. The organization helps artists create affordable living and work spaces.
Carbondale Arts’ Executive Director Amy Kimberly said she thought there’d be a higher turnout.
“This isn’t going to happen unless our whole community comes together and finds a way to make this happen," she said during the meeting.
Attendees expressed the need for pet and family friendly spaces. They said community gardens and co-ops would help keep artists in Carbondale. Artspace will conduct a market study with the town next year.
