Snowmass Village Arts Advisory Board looks at new projects

Christin Kay

The Snowmass Village Arts Advisory Board met yesterday to discuss possible partnerships.

Rose Abello from Snowmass Tourism approached the arts board to gauge their interest in working together on an art trail. The board discussed hiring two local curators to identify possible locations and pieces. Snowmass Tourism would cover the cost of hiring the consultants.

Abello said that an art trail would be a way to differentiate Snowmass’ hiking and biking.

The arts board has previously identified hiking trails that could make a potential public art trail, and these sites would be taken into consideration in this new partnership.

The arts board expressed interest in the project, but asked that they would have final say on the location of the trail and on any art that would be installed.

Also, the Snowmass Village Fire Department is interested in commissioning a piece that would be a tribute to fallen firefighters.

At their meeting Thursday, the arts board said they would consider putting a call out to artists and potentially helping with fundraising. They would not purchase or maintain the piece, which would be placed at the station.
