Labor Day Experience Beefs Up Communication, Security On Heels Of Last Year's Evacuations

gosnowmass.com

The annual Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience runs Friday through Sunday.  The weather looks clear, but last year, intense lightning forced concertgoers to wait in long lines and stormy weather to evacuate Town Park.

JAS CEO Jim Horowitz says the organization re-evaluated its communication and emergency procedures for this weekend.

One big change is a booster from AT&T to improve cell reception.

"There will be a lot more communication in multiple formats, and there’s more service," he said.

There will also be more signage around the grounds of the festival about evacuation routes. Buses used to transport people to and from the event will make fewer stops in case of emergencies. In addition, concertgoers can get updates on the Labor Day Experience app this year.

Horowitz says their organization, like other entertainment and sports events, has also had to think about preventing mass shootings.

"This is part of the world that we live in," he said.

Attendees can expect to see more security screening at the entrance this weekend.
