Wednesday, Dr. Edith Eva Eger speaks at Colorado Mountain College about healing from trauma.
Dr. Eger is a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp and is one of a dwindling number of Holocaust survivors alive today.
She was a teenager in Hungary in 1944 when Nazi soldiers broke into the home she shared with her sister Magda and their parents and took them to Auschwitz in Poland.
Her book “The Choice: Embrace the Possible,” tells her story of recovery and forgiveness.
It was selected by Colorado Mountain College as this year’s Common Reader, a community reading program for faculty, staff, students and community members.
Jane Szucs, an assistant dean of instruction, is the college’s Common Reader coordinator. She says Dr. Eger is an activist at heart who wants to bring people together.
"She wants this story to be told for multiple generations to understand, not forget, but also to find hope in her story," said Szucs.
Dr. Eger speaks at the Spring Valley campus in Glenwood Springs Wednesday and at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards Thursday. Both talks are at 7 p.m.
