Aspen Words is going online with part of its Summer Words Writers Conference & Literary Festival due to COVID-19. The literary organization kicks off its June programming virtually with a writing workshop hosted by the literary organization’s executive director Adrienne Brodeur. The discussion focuses on the ins and outs of writing about real people (Thursday, June 4, 5:30 p.m.).
Brodeur’s discussion is the first of five free panels, discussions and workshops; other panelists include Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and memoirist Gregory Pardlo, “Dear Sugars” podcaster Steve Almond and Philadelphia’s former poet laureate Yolanda Wisher.
Other virtual discussions aimed at aspiring and published authors include a Zoom discussion called “People, Places, POV,” hosted by Petra Mayer, an editor at NPR Books (Thursday, June 11, 5:30 p.m.). “Can I Write About This?” is hosted by author Leah Henderson, and discusses the boundaries of writing about diverse communities (Tuesday, June 16, 5:30 p.m.). Prospective authors can Zoom in for “The Business of Being a Writer” with a panel of novelists and editors (Wednesday, June 17, 5:30 p.m.).
The discussions can be streamed for free. A full lineup and registration for each event can be found on Aspen Words’ website.
