Today is September 11th — the 23rd anniversary of multiple deadly terrorist attacks on U.S. soil — and several memorial events will take place in the Roaring Fork Valley. The Aspen Fire Department will present their annual “Day of Remembrance” at the downtown fire station at noon, with a plane flyover, honor guard, speakers and music. Snowmass Village will organize an “Axes and Arms” walk with first responders from Town Park to the top of the village. That begins at 6 p.m., and climbs 956 feet in elevation — the same amount that New York first responders climbed inside the first tower of the World Trade Center. And throughout the day, High Country Volunteers will host a day of service with projects between Carbondale and Parachute.
