The Pitkin County Board of Commissioners voted in the first of two hearings to approve the expansion of Aspen Mountain’s ski resort into the Pandora’s area. But Aspen Skiing Co. is not in the clear yet. Final approval requires another vote Oct. 13 to expand the ski area by 153 acres off the northeast side of Richmond Ridge.

Scott Condon of The Aspen Times has been covering the proceedings since 2019, when a decision on the proposal was first postponed. Aspen Public Radio reporter Halle Zander spoke with Condon about the outlook of next month’s meeting and what the decision could mean for Aspen.

Halle Zander is a broadcast journalist and the afternoon anchor on Aspen Public Radio during "All Things Considered." Her work has been recognized by the Public Media Journalists Association, the Colorado Broadcasters Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
