Aspen adjusts to no Pro Challenge this summer

Government, spectators and volunteers are adjusting to not having the USA Pro Challenge this summer. One of the most enthusiastic supporters has been the City of Aspen.

The pro cycling statewide race has been held every year since 2011, with Aspen hosting a stage each time. “Nothing is ever permanent,” says Mayor of Aspen Steve Skadron. “Our summers are pretty busy, I think it’ll be good for Aspen to have a few days off, it will allow us to catch our breath.”

Skadron says he appreciates that organizers are taking time to line up the right new investors for the international event. The City of Aspen ponied up hundreds of thousands of dollars while hosting over the last five years. The goal was to entice international TV spectators to visit the Roaring Fork Valley.
