On Tuesday, the Eagle County Commissioners approved the creation of the Tree Farm Metropolitan District.
The Tree Farm development in El Jebel will eventually offer more than 300 housing units across Highway 82 from Whole Foods.
It will also need things like roads and sidewalks, which is where the metro district comes in. It’s a taxing district, and will tax the future Tree Farm residents to pay for the new infrastructure.
Mike Scanlon, who represents the developer, said creating a metro district is proof of the project’s dedication to affordability.
Residents will pay for streets and sidewalks over time, through taxes, not up front, with higher land prices. This, Scanlon said, means residents can apply for smaller mortgages.
