With Help From BLM, Basalt Area Gets New Fire Station

Bureau of Land Management

Basalt’s fire department is getting an additional station.

It’ll be built on land owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Earlier this month, the BLM granted the Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District a right-of-way to build a new station on a little over two acres on West Sopris Creek Road, southwest of Basalt, toward the base of Mount Sopris, near Prince Creek Road.

The BLM says it’s important local fire stations have adequate capacity because they’re usually the first to respond to wildfires.

Construction is expected to start this summer.
