Carbondale wants one waste hauler to take out the trash and recycling. At its meeting last night, the board of trustees awarded a five-year contract to Mountain Waste, which most people in town already use.
The other candidate was Waste Management. By just using one hauler, the town will reduce the cost of trash and recycling. It also wants to cut down on traffic, and the amount wildlife gets into people’s trash.
The service will show up on residents’ utility bills. The only exception is apartment buildings, which will still be able to choose their own provider.
Mountain Waste will also take care of seasonal waste collection, like Christmas trees and leaves, as well as the town government’s own trash and recycling.
