In the week we’ve been here, we’ve had several days in the red zone, which means it’s recommended that children and elderly not go outside or limit all activities outside, and our athletes are out there sucking in massive amounts of this air!
The Olympic plaza has informational kiosks on environmental organizations promoting clean energy. I stopped into one. The women working were so polite but there was not much info on what is being done at a national level to address climate action. Their main focus is bringing awareness is to clean energy production, particularly the hydro fuel cell technology. The Hyundai pavilion, promoting their 100% fuel cell electric vehicle, was by far the most popular place with a 20-minute wait in the line to get in. I’m still on the hunt for more details on the Korean commitment to this Olympics being the lowest carbon footprint Olympics yet.
