Officials finalize Airbnb rules for Glenwood Springs

Airbnb.com

People renting out their homes in Glenwood Springs have to register with the City. It’s a new requirement for residents using the home sharing service, Airbnb. Users must get a business license and permit, adding up to more than $150, plus pay more than 6% in local taxes.

Marianne Virgili is President of the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association and supports regulating sharing services. “I just think it’s the business model for the future,” said Virgili on Friday. “With everything I read about where we’re heading as a society, and people will be utilizing all kinds of resources to make a living.”

More than a hundred Glenwood Springs locations are advertised on Airbnb. The new requirements are already on the books for those using VRBO, or vacation rentals by owner.
