Karl Hanlon declares candidacy for Colorado District 3

Carbondale lawyer Karl Hanlon is running for congress, challenging incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton.

Hanlon, currently the city attorney for Glenwood Springs, is running as a Democrat to represent Colorado’s 3rd District .

Hanlon is a shareholder with the firm Karp Neu Hanlon, P.C., with offices in Glenwood Springs, Montrose and Aspen.  His career has focused primarily on water rights. The Colorado native settled into the valley after obtaining his law degree at the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

In his campaign announcement, Hanlon said that Western Slope concerns are ignored on the national level. He lists energy, environment, addiction and mental health and agriculture as top priorities.

“Unlike the people who claim to represent us in Washington, D.C., at the moment, I commit to you that I will show up, listen to you, and look you in the eye even if we disagree,” Hanlon said.

Colorado District 3 encompasses the entire western third of the state, from the Wyoming border to Arizona.
