Garfield considers joining cadre of counties wooing Xcel Energy

Garfield County

Xcel Energy has plans to build a new power plant, and Mesa County wants it built on the Western Slope. On Monday, Garfield County’s Commissioners will discuss if they want to jump on board.

Mesa County Board of Commissioners recently sent Gov. Hickenlooper a letter, urging him to support gas development on the Western Slope. Their letter cites the productivity of the Piceance and Sandwash Basins.

It also states that while the Front Range continues to make headlines for economic growth, “rural Colorado” lags behind.
