‘Adventure belongs to all’ at this year’s 5Point

The 10th annual 5Point Adventure Film Festival kicks off Thursday. Athletes and industry leaders will take over Carbondale during the four-day event.

5Point has evolved into a worldwide event that has simultaneously put the valley, and its filmmakers, on the adventurer’s map. This year’s theme is “adventure belongs to all.” Meaning that adventure can happen anywhere.

Meaghan Lynch is the new executive director of 5Point. This will be her 8th year attending the festival. Lynch said the formula for a really good adventure film is simple.

“It’s stories about people thoughtfully pushing the boundaries of their life,” she said. “And we really emphasize the word thoughtful because we try not to look for the films ... I always have trouble with the films where it feels like someone is sort of recklessly pushing those boundaries.”

This year’s festival will feature a beer garden stationed on Main Street. Outdoor podcasters and bluegrass bands will provide the sound scape for the weekend.
