'Cabaret' opens at Sopris Theatre Company

Colorado Mountain College

Colorado Mountain College’s Sopris Theatre Company opens "Cabaret" Friday night at the Spring Valley campus.

"Cabaret" is a dark musical, centered on the patrons in a German nightclub as the Third Reich begins to take power.

Director Brad Moore explained that the issues that the characters face in the production are pertinent today.  “Questions about nationalism, but also questions about how people are treated and what happens when we’re in a real state of misunderstanding or fear about what people stand for, or who they are.”

Moore said he hopes both the themes and the performances will inspire conversation for audience members. Community members have joined CMC students and staff for this production.

"Cabaret" runs through April 22.
