Garfield County Libraries has named Brett Lear as their new executive director.
Lear comes to Garfield Libraries after serving as the executive director of Sonoma County Libraries and heading up a private consulting firm.
Todd Anderson is the president of Garfield County Libraries' board of trustees. He said he hopes Lear’s background will help the public library system navigate recent funding cuts, so the libraries are able to buy more books and offer more programming.
"We’re hoping that we can use the experience that he’s had not just in the libraries, but also as a business leader,” Anderson said.
Lear’s start date is November 5, one day before voters decide on a ballot measure that would allow Garfield County’s libraries to keep money that they are currently required to return because of the TABOR amendment.
