For the past year-and-a-half, the mid-valley needed to look no farther than Willits for live music and award-winning acts.
However, the entertainment venue The Temporary shut its doors last weekend. The Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW), the nonprofit that operated The Temporary, is turning its attention to building a larger performance space two blocks away.
Reporter Christin Kay sat down with TACAW’s executive director Ryan Honey and artistic director Marc Breslin to reflect on the Temporary’s 20-month tenure, and to talk about plans for the new venue, The Contemporary.
Breslin says the organization plans to maintain a presence until The Contemporary opens. He’s selecting the artists who will play the summer concert series held in downtown Basalt and Triangle Park in Willits. The lineup will be released in early June.
TACAW is also booking a band for the Balloon Festival in Crown Mountain Park.
They’re hosting new events as well, such as an outdoor dance party, “Basalsa,” in July, and a street performer festival in September.
TACAW aims to open The Contemporary as early as 2020.
