The Glenwood Springs Fire Department, with the help of other local crews, was able to control a two-acre wildfire in the Three Mile area around 11 p.m. Sunday evening.
City of Glenwood Springs officials said in a press release the fire began around 7 p.m. Sunday. A small residential structure was fully engulfed in flames, and 20-foot-high flames in mature oak brush made the chance of spread likely.
Two water tenders, seven fire engines, seven command vehicles and 42 firefighters responded to the Three Mile fire. Evacuation orders were issued for Three Mile residents, and were lifted around 9 p.m. Mountain Springs residents were asked to shelter in place until 10:00 p.m.
"The rapid response by firefighters kept this two-acre fire from turning into a very large and destructive wildfire," said Harlan Nimmo, incident commander.
Glenwood Springs officials said the fire is currently controlled and will be monitored. No injuries were reported. An investigation is being conducted by the Garfield County Fire Investigation team.

Shelter in place orders for Mountain Springs residents have been lifted. Glenwood Springs Fire Department is advising that the road is impassible due to firefighter presence and equipment, and to avoid the area.

Glenwood Springs Fire Department is now describing the fire in the Three Mile area of Glenwood Springs as "controlled." Crews remain onseen and are still putting out the fire. Air support was not needed. The road is still closed above the 1.2 mile mark. Shelter in place orders for Mountain Springs residents have not been lifted.

The Glenwood Springs Fire Department is lifting all Three Mile evacuation orders. Mountain Spring residents are to continue to shelter in place. The Garfield County Sheriff's Office reported fire command was able to control the fire and limit the spread without air support. The sheriff's office said Three Mile Road is closed above the 1.2 mile mark.

The Glenwood Springs Fire Department reports the trailer park is not included in the evacuation order. Evacuation orders are in place at the .5 mile marker of the Three Mile area. Evacuees report to the south side of Glenwood Springs High School.

Glenwood Springs Fire Department reported Sunday evening that a brush fire broke out in the Three Mile Road area of the city. According to the department's Facebook page, 20 foot flames were reported in a heavily treed area, and a structure was engulfed in flames. The area has been evacuated, and displaced residents were told to report to Glenwood High School. Air Support has been called in to assist in putting out the fire.
