Aspen played host to plenty of visitors between Christmas and New Years, with upwards of 90% of hotel rooms booked in that time frame. While the busy holiday period made for crowded roads and sidewalks, Aspen police say it didn’t lead to a significant increase in traffic accidents.
62 total accidents were reported between Dec. 1 and Jan. 3, but only 26 of them fell between Dec. 22 and Jan. 3. That means that roughly 40% of those traffic accidents occurred in about 40% of that period, indicating that accidents were evenly spread.
Police officials say accidents are more likely to increase during icy or snowy weather, rather than when there are more cars and pedestrians in town.
