Traffic

Carbondale is moving forward with plans to reduce traffic and improve bike and pedestrian access on 8th Street, which intersects Main Street near the end of downtown. The town says people raised concerns about narrow sidewalks and limited access for bikes on a street with plenty of car traffic in residential areas.

Aspen played host to plenty of visitors between Christmas and New Years, with upwards of 90% of hotel rooms booked in that time frame. While the busy holiday period made for crowded roads and sidewalks, Aspen police say it didn’t lead to a significant increase in traffic accidents.

The Castle Creek Bridge in Aspen will be undergoing construction from Monday, October 7 to Friday, October 11. Operations will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to mill both lanes of the bridge and lay new asphalt.

Police say a car accident that happened at one of Aspen’s busiest intersections could have been much worse.

Just before noon Monday a four-door Audi sedan collided with a full-size pickup truck at the corner of Mill and Main Streets downtown. The truck was attempting to turn left onto Mill when the Audi ran a red light, smashed into the truck and sent it spinning upright. The impact sent the Audi up the curb. It stopped just shy of the entrance to ANB Bank.
