On Tuesday, Eagle County won an award for its commitment to its seniors. AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons, is adding Eagle County to its list of “age-friendly communities.”

According to Eagle County’s public health department, the number of its residents who are 60 and older is expected to quadruple by 2035.

The county’s Aging Well initiative aims to connect older people to health care providers, ensure the aging community has housing options and provide events and services specifically designed for seniors.

Eagle is one of six counties in Colorado to earn this designation. Pitkin is the only other on the Western Slope to be recognized.
