Campaign season kicked off in Colorado with debates over the weekend at Club 20 in Grand Junction. The group has been organizing Western Slope politics for more than 70 years, and it’s one of the first big events as campaign season gets into full gear, even if some candidates sit it out.

Republican candidate for governor Victor Marx agreed earlier this week to a moderated debate with Democratic candidate Phil Weiser.

The Supreme Court said late Monday that a U.S. Postal Service rule to restrict mail-in voting cannot go into effect for the midterm elections. With the decision, Colorado will be allowed to mail a ballot to all registered voters as required under state law.

The midterm elections are around the corner, and Colorado election officials are dealing with a lot of uncertainty. Colorado and about two dozen states have sued to block a new U.S. Postal Service (USPS) rule to regulate and restrict mail ballots.

The Supreme Court Justices said Colorado’s law banning conversion therapy regulates speech based on viewpoint, and the lower courts erred by failing to apply sufficiently rigorous First Amendment scrutiny.
