News DirectorBrent’s journalism career includes working as a reporter at the Aspen Daily News and The Aspen Times. He also founded Aspen Journalism in 2011, and worked there as reporter, editor, and executive director until August, 2021.
Brent's broadcasting experience includes working as executive director and DJ at Aspen Public Radio, news director and DJ at WMVY, Tisbury, reporter and DJ at KSNO, Aspen, producer and DJ at KSPN, Aspen, and reporter and DJ at KCHO, Chico.
He has a master’s degree in journalism from the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. And his reporting has been recognized by the Colorado Broadcasters Association, the Colorado Press Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists.

The late Robert McNamara, Department of Defense secretary from 1961 to 1968, is often described as “the architect" of the Vietnam War and had strong ties to Aspen and Snowmass Village. His son Craig has written a book called “Because Our Fathers Lied: A Memoir of Truth and Family, From Vietnam to Today.” He spoke about it with Aspen Public Radio's Brent Gardner-Smith.

A memorial service was held Saturday for Bob Braudis, who was first elected sheriff of Pitkin County in 1986 and won reelection five more times, serving 24 years in all. Braudis died June 3. He was 77. Aspen Public Radio broadcast the service live, and the recorded audio of the event is below.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is running for reelection and a second four-year term. His opponent is John Kellner, a Republican, and the district attorney in the 18th Judicial District, which includes Douglas and Arapahoe counties on the Front Range. Weiser, a Democrat, held a fundraiser in Snowmass Village on Saturday and spoke at a meeting Sunday at the Pitkin County library.
