On Wednesday, the Carbondale Public Arts Commission will discuss the finalists for the annual “Art Around Town” public art exhibition.
Choosing the outdoor sculptures, which are displayed for a year around Carbondale, is the commission’s biggest project. Last week, a jury made up of current and past commissioners, as well as community members, selected 15 sculptures from 55 applicants.
On Wednesday night, the commission will discuss requesting firm commitments from the artists who made the cut.
Laurie Lindbergh, city liaison to the commission, said the finalists all fit in well with the community. But there’s variety, too.
“It’s funny, the commission picked either very large pieces, or kind of tiny pieces,” she said. The commission will also begin planning the opening reception for “Art Around Town,” which is scheduled for May 31.
