Thursday is Carbondale’s “Art Around Town” walking tour. Residents can view 14 new, public art pieces and meet the artists.
Sculptures from a wide range of local, state and national artists will be unveiled. The pieces are installed in locations near Carbondale’s main street on existing marble bases, and will be displayed until next spring.
“Art Around Town” is the main undertaking of the Carbondale Public Arts Commission. Sarah Moore, the chair of the committee, said Thursday's event is a chance to learn about the works.
“It gives everybody an opportunity to meet the artists, to ask the artists any questions about their materials, their process, their thoughts, so it’s a pretty interesting experience," Moore said.
According to Moore, “Art Around Town” highlights an arts-centric culture in Carbondale.
“There’s just so many people who love the community and the art part of Carbondale, and this is just the perfect example of it,” Moore said.
The walking tour starts at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, and will be followed by a reception at 7:00 at the Village Smithy Restaurant.
